On a personal note I finally got a new computer. "hurray!" I spent 4 months in the stone age only using a computer when I had someone elses close by. I am reconnected to the world and it feels so good!

I have been without a computer for months now. I only use my husbands laptop when he is home at the same time as I am, which isn't very much. With out a computer all day I have spent a lot more time outside, crafting and just hanging with my kids. It has been kinda nice, but don't tell my husband that! I am a bit disconnected from the world though and that's why I am checking in to update on what my little hands have been crafting these days. I am still loving the sweater recycling. From Vintage to Spooky

I just wanted to stop in and say hey. This summer has been crazy busy with the kids home from school and all. I haven't done much crafting, but I did get a chance to take 4 vintage cloth napkins and hand stitch felt Halloween images to them. I was thinking about making them into pillows, but instead they ended up a single table runner. I am off to do more swimming and enjoying my summer!

here is a bit of what you will see......

I grew up on a large 200 hundred acre farm that was no longer in use, except for the fields of corn and soy bean. Cherry Lane Farm was our haven in a suburban town filled with newly developed neighborhoods, soccer fields, and shopping centers. We lived atop a hill over looking Cincinnati and the view was breath taking! We used the old farm land as our playground

REMODEL

I have been in the middle of a remodel in the basement. We moved into this house and the basement was finished....well kinda finished. We have lived with it for 2yrs and thought it was time to get rid of the yellowish orange walls, the rusty orange trim, and the awful dark blue carpet that shows everything! If you sneeze it shows the dust and that makes our poor vacuum work overtime. Especially since my husband has a bit of a clean freak streak in him. It is a large double room that we use for a second family room and the other side is for the kids playroom.

Today the carpet guys are installing the new carpet so I am thrilled! As soon as we have it all done I will post the after shoots, but for now here is a peek at the horrible before pictures. The stairwell had lattice on one side and wood paneling on the other..... yuck!

this is it after the carpet was removed and the walls were primed for the new paint. It already looks ten times better.

I have been so very busy with ripping carpet out and sanding and painting that I haven't shared any of my new items lately. Here are a few of the new listing at CherryLaneJane.etsy.com. All but one are made from reclaimed vintage sweaters.

Adding to my Fabric Stash

I haven't added to my collection of fabric or my "STASH" in quit some time, but I had some extra paypal cash and decided to splurge on some fun new fabrics. I already have a ton of projects in mind for most of them. I know that my fabric stash is already quit large. I have collected things from my mothers vintage 70's and 80's stash and from my aunts stash. I have also spent plenty of money over the years in fabric, but if your an avid sewer or quilter than you can NEVER have enough fabric! I know some of you know what I mean. No matter how much my husband cringes when he sees my craft room and all my stuff I just close the door and smile because that is my passion. The best part of having a substantial stash of fabric is that whenever you need something you don't have to stop in the middle of a project to go find fabric at the craft store or wait to get it shipped to you. It is all there just waiting for your next inspiration.

I ordered these online on Friday and by Monday at noon they were in my mailbox! Talk about a wonderfully fast shipping service. Thanks so much to Fabric Supplies at www.fabricsupplies.etsy.com. If you are in need of fabric than you must take a look at their large variety of beautiful quality fabrics.

The Sun is Shinning

I woke up today with blue skies and warmth. It is a wonderful change of pace since this April has been quit dreary here in Ohio. My Weeping Cherry tree is in full bloom and looks gorgeous against the blue sky.

We had a birthday party for my son. Braden turned 6 this weekend. I made a super simple chocolate devil's cake and let him make the icing color with food coloring. I think he did a great job, don't you?

The week before we had our fun Easter celebration and I never got a chance to share our Easter eggs with everyone. My 10yr old Halie's set is the more vibrant ones because she has more patience and can keep her eggs in the dye longer. ;)~

With 3 days in a row of sunny skies and 85 degree weather I am excited for some outside time with the family. Plus a Saturday night with friends for my birthday!

I made two pillows from the same sweater. Both I adore for their nature themes! I would love to keep them both, but then My husband would put his feet on them and they are too cute for me to let him do that ;) teehee I used the same cream colored thrift store sweater and I would love to know what you think of my newest creations....

Spring Break and Cherry Blossoms

It's Spring Break for the kids and my sisters and I went on a vacation to visit another one of our sisters in Memphis,TN. I left the hubby at home and we had a fun filled, hair dying, zoo going, alcoholic smoothie drinking, girls just wanna have fun good time!

I came home a red head.

I also came home relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to get back into real life. When I came home my Weeping Cherry was in bloom and I am glad I didn't miss it! Today I made a recycled sweater elephant bib and used the tree as a prop. I just listed it in my etsy shop.

ROAD TRIP

I woke up last Saturday with the idea in my head that I would spend the whole day in my pj's crafting! I was thrilled and as soon as I got up I finished a sweater pillow and listed it on etsy. Then the phone rang. It was my husband saying something didn't get delivered on the truck shipment at work. (we both work for the same company) The customer needed these boxes by Sunday and they were at least 4hrs away in Michigan. He was going to have to get in his car and go the 8hr round trip to get them. Then he asked me to join him ASAP and head to Michigan with him. We live in southern Ohio just north of Cincinnati.

Being a mommy of two great kids spontaneous trips to nowhere are very few and far between. Leaving to go to the grocery is hard enough. I thought to myself "why not?" and called my mother in law. She agreed to take the kids and within an hour I was packed and ready to take a road trip with my husband.

Along the way we decided to stop wherever and whenever we saw something interesting. We made it fun and the best part was we enjoyed each others company so much we didn't even turn the radio on the first half of the trip.

These are just a few of the fun things that two parents, who never get away, got a chance to see......

We also saw this gorgeous old church.

Then we say a big white ball off the highway and stopped at the exit.

It was the space museum and we got inside a space ship outside.

We also saw an orange airplane that John Glen flew before his space flight

Then there was the old shiny silver Denny's. I didn't even know there were any Denny's left.

At the end of the day we stopped at the Outback Steakhouse and had the yummiest rib dinner! It wasn't all that thrilling, but for me "a home body" it was exciting to get out there and just hit the road for a little American road trip. Next time Dan asks me to go with the flow I just might take him up on it.

100 Sales

I am happy to say that I achieved a goal for my etsy shop. Today I made my 100th sale and within my 1yr mark! This is minor I know for some of the big wigs out there, but for little ole me it feels very good. Thanks to everyone who has purchased items and for those who have come back for more. I hope that within the next year I can come back and have my 200th sale.

A Pair of Pears

With spring almost here the fields around here remind me of the American Prairie. Nothing is green just yet. It is all just overgrown and brown. The sun is peeking out of the clouds this morning making an orange glow shine on everything. That inspired me to make this fun treasury about the Prairie at Day Break......

T is for a bunch of things today. First it's for Thursday. That is great because I don't work tomorrow! It's also for Tissues because my cold isn't gone and I am on my second box of them.

T is for spring Time which is swiftly approaching here in Ohio. I know this because the robins that took home in my yard last year and had babies a few feet from my door are back and looking for a place to nest. The Morning Doves are too. I sure hope they stay all spring! If you missed them last year here they are....

I came down with another cold this morning. I guess it's the season for it. I drank some airborne and took some cold meds. Now I am just pondering my next craft project. I am thinking about making something purple. I never do purple so it will be a nice change of pace for me.

Super Simple- Muffin Pan Meatloaf Recipe

Muffin Pan Meatloaf

My mother always made this yummy simple and moist recipe for us when we were kids. It was something we looked forward to and still do to this day. I had my mother over for birthday dinner last week and made her some Muffin Pan Meatloaf. I am sure it was nice to have someone else cook these for her instead of doing it herself. Because all 7 of us kids still have her make it for us whenever we can.

Most meatloaf is dry and dense, but this is almost fluffy and oh so moist! The meatloaf itself has only 4 ingredients. The sauce has 3 ingredients. Plus it only takes 25 minutes to cook and everyone gets there own individual portions. What could be easier? I thought you might like a newer updated meatloaf recipe so here it is...... enjoy!

I always double the recipe for leftovers and drown it in ketchup after cooking it. :)~

Muffin Pan Meatloaf

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 egg
1- 8oz. can tomato sauce
1 cup Stove Top Stuffing

Sauce Ingredients:
1/4 cup ketchup
2T. brown sugar
1T. Vinegar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl combine the ground beef, egg, tomato sauce, and stove top. (you can add salt and pepper also) Roll into even balls and place into muffin pans. In a small bowl combine ketchup, brown sugar, and vinegar. Spoon the sauce over the meatloaf. Place in oven and cook for 25min at 350F. Feeds a family of 4.

Phone Book Crafts

I wanted to share with you a New Etsy seller, Phone Book Crafts. Karisse is the wonderful creator behind this Eco friendly shop. She recycles things out of phone books and does it in such a classy and fun way.

She makes cards that say things like Smile, Thinking of you, and Cheer up.

You will also find handmade beads and scrapbook embellishments.

I wanted to know more about Karisse and Phone Book Crafts so here is some more fun info in her own words....

How it all began...

I have been selling online since 2000. Primarly on e-bay in the beginning. I have gone though a lot of different phases, or business niches.
I found etsy in 2008 and this is primarily where I sell now.

I have a fascination with paper crafts. I have stacks and stacks of papers that I just had to have. I have a whole bedroom dedicated to my paper crafting. It's a sickness. Sometimes I'd rather be in my room playing with my paper than at a dinner party, at the movies with friends, or spending time with my husband!

Phone book crafts is something that is new to me, but the techniques that I use are ones that I have been doing for awhile. (I have actually started a paper bead - 3-tier- topiary ... painstakingly rolling each bead and pinning it onto the base! - at the rate that I am going however, I estimate 3 .75 years until completion)

We just moved into a new condo, and there was a phone book here. We got a delivery letter to pick up something at the post office, and low and behold, it was another phone book. Then 2009 came around, and the new phone books came out.
Now I am sitting on 3 huge phone books.

I am very resourceful, and yes, I know that I can just recycle it and it will be broken down and made into other little phone books (or toilet paper!)
however, there was just something about "phone book crafts" that really appealed to me.

I am a very eco-friendly person, I was just brought up that way (props to my mother!)
I would prefer to re-use something and extend it's life before it's sent off to be melted down, smushed, pulped and made into little off-sets

Too legit to Quit

I haven't posted much about my life in recent posting, but this is just to hard to pass up. I just ran across my elementary music teacher on facebook. This guy was awesome! Mr. Dendler. He wrote music for the school and our concerts. I loved his class! He even wrote our school song "Let Freedom Ring" which I still have the sheet music for in my piano bench. On his facebook are lots videos and pictures from back then. Everything from concerts, the morning news, science fairs, field days, interviews with the staff, and a work out video some of the kids did with the gym teacher. I think my favorite so far is the video of the dance team doing the too legit to quit song from MC Hammer. I remember doing that in gym class and loving it! Wow were we cool back then. hahaha

Just in case you need a little laugh here is the too legit to quit video from MC Hammer.......

I was having a rough week and then I wake up and see all these videos. It was just the happy thing I needed to cheer me up. I laughed out loud so much that my side hurts. I think I spent an hour watching videos. Now I am going to add some of my own pictures of back then to my album. I hope I give someone else the same giggle that Mr. Dendler's pictures gave me!

Feeling Foxy

I have been a bit busy with my real life. One of my kids got pneumonia and the other had a school play which took up a better part of my life for the past week or two. My son is healing wonderfully after a ton of meds and breathing treatments every 4hrs for what felt like days of sleeplessness. My daughter's play is done and no more practicing, so I am back to crafting and these are my newest Etsy items.

The fun part is you can toss the items around the page like a ball and disguard the ones you don't need. You can shop local by finding shops that are close to your area. You can Pounce and find undiscovered newly updates shops waiting for their first sale. Pounce also has the option of looking for things that just sold. You can look at the Editor's Picks and see all the items in thumbnail forms. Of course of one my favorites is the treasury and treasury west. The treasuries are handpicked by etsy shops. They feature 12 coordinating or similar items. There are never less than 333 lists in the treasury and never less than 222 lists in treasury west. It is always fun to see what the sellers are into these days. On the front page of Etsy you can read the storque articles, view the featured seller of the week, search by category, and search by typing in the word. When you search there is a drag down button where you can search Vintage, Supplies, or Handmade separately. The Showcase page features items sellers are featuring in their own shops. Last but not least you can look at the Gift Guides. If there is something you need to get mom or dad, a coworker, a holiday, baby, a geek, a teen, or something modern, etc. there are gift guides for all your special needs that feature the Etsy administration's picks.

Tattered Quilts aren't garbage!

I am over my cold and back to creating...... Hurray!!!!

Whenever I hear someone say that an item is old, tattered, worn, and thus ready for the trash I know that there has to be something else we can do with it. My mother always crafted and she had a hug room of "stuff" in the basement. I too have acquired a room of "stuff". To my husband and father it is trash, but I am always finding a need for the things I have in that room. I have it semi organized and the door shuts so no one has to know it's there. There are trinkets, clothes, baskets, wires, pictures, magazines, and old quilts. None of it is garbage! I do throw away trash when I know it's trash, but treasures stay for a rainy day. If the kids have a project or this teachers calls and needs an activity for a party I am always ready with something to do. Plus in my spare time I can create wonderful things that I know someone will enjoy:)

I know you may see a stained old quilt with holes and rips as an unappealing thing that you would most certainly not snuggle up with, but someone took a lot of time to make that beautiful quilt. Usually with whatever scraps she could find. Then for many many years her family and friends kept warm and cozy with that quilt. They knew it was made with love and hard work for them. Now when I see that quilt or old blanket I know there is a part of it I can salvage. I can turn it into a pillow, pot holders, bowl fillers, table runners, coasters, etc. Then all that woman's hard work will still be appreciated and enjoyed all these years later. I have done this many many times and these are a few of my newest quilt recycled creations.....

The Common Cold

I have been struck with the common cold. It seems that whenever someone says they have a cold you think "aww that sucks", but No it REALLY REALLY is awful. The constant runny nose and stuffy head make for some miserable days ahead. It affects your daily life in the most annoying way. After 5 days of feeling like my ears are going to pop, my head is going to explode, a semi truck is sitting on my head, and someone took sand paper to my nose gives me reason to change my feelings on the common cold. From now on whenever someone says they have a cold or a sinus infection my response will be "I am so sorry that is terrible" because I was worthless this whole week with my cold and sinus infection. Of course the week my kids are stuck home for snow days 4 1/2 days out of 5 this week their mom was a mess. I feel bad for them. I should have been out sledding with them, but instead I spent it layed out on the couch watching them enjoy the 10" of snow we got from the window.

I did manage to go outside a bit and take a few photos of the snow so here they are. It was pretty to look at even though I didn't get to play in it! The Common Cold is a BUMMER!

I am so happy that almost all the pillows I listed have sold!

I was laying there trying to fall asleep wondering what I was going to do the next day. Then my mind wondered to making another sweater pillow. I thought about Valentine's day and making one into a card. Then it hit me! "Make an interactive pillow"! I thought a little more and this is what I came up with.....

Pull A Part - "He Loves Me - He Loves Me Not" Sweater Pillow.

Is your relationship new? Not sure yet if he loves you?

Directions:
This interactive sweater pillow will give you the answer. Just ask the pillow "Does he love me"? Then Pull Off a petal while resiting "he loves me...pull off the next petal and say "he loves me not" you will find your answer when all the petals are gone.

Phasing out Handmade Toys because of CPSIA / Making Valentines Decorations

Because of the new law going into effect Feb. 10, 2009 requiring all items to be tested by a third party at unreasonable rates I will be phasing out my handmade baby toys for now. I am sad about it and I feel very sad for the thousands of other people who will be going out of business do to this law. Handmade toys and items intended for use by anyone under 12yrs old will be affected. It is sad that mothers will no longer have a safe handmade alternative to the lead based toys that are imported from other countries.

I found a ton of vintage wool clothing and blanketsat the thrift store over the years. Of course I couldn't resist buying some. Thrift stores are the bomb! I wasn't planning on using them on anything in particular, but this is what my little mind came up with so far for the 2008 holiday season. I have sold a few on etsy and the rest are still up for sale.

So my question was.......

Do we use cloth napkins or pretty paper towels for Thanksgiving?????

I know my mother and grandmother would gasp at the thought of paper towels, but they are easy and they make them oh so cute these days. I let this thought go and went about my day.

There I was strolling the fabric store for some more thread (Not a big purchase, but still a very necessary one) when I saw this fabulous turkey fabric screaming at me "Liz buy me"...."wouldn't I make great napkins?".... Of course I am crazy and yes fabric talks to me, but besides that I knew that the switch to cloth napkins would be a fun one. I already know how to sew and this turkey fabric was screaming at me. Plus no trees would be hurt in the process. How could I turn this cute fabric down? I couldn't! I bought the fabric and made some cloth napkins. I have two sets of 6 for sale on etsy also. Didn't they turn out great?? Pictures not so much, but the sun is setting and I couldn't get it any better today so maybe tomorrow I will try again.

Plus I feel way better not hurting mother nature anymore than I have to! What are you planning on using????

Newest Baby Toys

I made a few new toys to add to my Etsy Shop. The first is a Learning toy with a smile face on one side and a sad face on the other.

This Emotions Sunburst toy is so cute and I am tempted not to part with it;), but mine are growing older and this is just not their thing anymore. I hand stitched the faces on felt and then hand stitched the faces to the soft fiberfill stuffed Sunburst. I am making pink and blue ones right now. I am also making some multiracial ones.

The second set of toys is this set of Soft Foam Blocks. They are 4 inch cubes. The best thing is that all the sides are flat so stacking is easy. Most soft blocks are filled with fiberfill, but I used whole blocks of foam. I make these is all sorts of color combos or pattern for an "I Spy" set.

I also made a few Halloween Bibs for the upcoming holiday. ALL HALLOWEEN BIBS ARE ON SALE FOR $8!!!!

Braden and Grandma on the way to the bus in the rain

I didn't do a Friday Favorites today because I have been busy getting my son off to his first day of Kindergarten. He got on the big bus today all by himself! Yes it's a sad day, but I am happy for him that he is big enough to do what his sister does now. The bus pulled up this morning and he hopped right on without any hesitation. I was so proud of him. What a Big Boy! He will only be gone half day so in a few short hours he will be back again giving his sad mommy a hug.

My inlaws came to watch Braden get on the bus and I was shown this adorable picture of my husband on his first day of kindergarten. Aren't my boys the cutest!?! That wasn't really a question since I already know the answer ;)~ teeheee I hope you all have a great weekend! I am off to enjoy my three hours of peace and quiet and maybe catch a nap.

Camping........is that Bamboo in Ohio????

We had a wonderful time camping this Labor Day Weekend! On the way there it rained terribly, but the sun came out and a rainbow guided our way to the camp site!

We set up camp immediately since the sun was setting and we started a fire.

The boys made me smores. YUMMY!!!

I woke up the next day to pancakes and sausage. Thanks to my brother and sister! That is better breakfast than I get at home. Then we took the kids swimming at the lake.

This is my sisters and I chillin by the camper. The other pic is my daughter Halie and her Aunts.

We took a hike and found a swamp just a few hundreds yards from the campsite. My girl scout leader days kicked in and we identified trees and bugs and things.

The boys climbed trees and then we came upon this part of the woods that looked nothing like the Ohio Forest that I knew! It was almost like a forest filled with bamboo. These reeds were taller than we were and hollow like bamboo, but they were striped green and tan.If anyone knows what they are let me know! It was really cool. Could it be Bamboo??? Does it grow in Ohio? How would it have gotten there? I wonder....

I got a 100 bug bites and didn't sleep well, but I would have to say it was a success! We laughed and giggled till the wee hours of the morning and we had no tv or video games for two whole days. It was the perfect way to end the summer:) The kids started school today so I will have my morning free from now on! yippeee

My latest and greatest treasuries/ Labor Day Camping

I have been busy all week planning for our camping trip this Labor Day weekend and with school open houses and school shopping I have been MIA as far as the blog. I managed to get these treasuries and that's it! lol Maybe next week when school starts I can get back to my crafting and blogging groove.

Wish me luck on the camping trip. I haven't been in well over 10yrs and it is supposed to rain. The pollen count will be high and my poor sneezy husband will be snotty! My two kids are not used to life without tv and air conditioning. Yes it will be good for us and it will be an adventure non the less. My sister and her two kids and my brother are going so it should be fun with all of us there. It will be our last summer hurrah before Fall.

Flash Floods and Blog Features

I was on my way to work on Sunday to cover for a coworker who was off and it started to rain. No big deal, right? I had looked at weatherbug before I left and it had just a tiny spot on the radar. Nothing to worry about. Then the rain got so hard I could barely see and the more I drove the more the rain piled up. On my first stop (I fill vending machines) I got out of the car in my rain coat and ran inside. There was no electricity and I was already soaked. "OK" I thought and then on to the next stop. I then realized I needed gas. I found a gas station and got out to pump gas. The rain and wind were sideways by then. I got back in the car and the rain had soaked through my raincoat, my sweatshirt, my t-shirt, my jeans, and yes my undies too! I went to my next stop and filled everything just fine. Except I realized I could not keep my pants up because they were so wet and heavy they kept slipping down. I knew I would have to stop by the house to get some dry clothes. This is when I remembered I had my camera in my purse and I took a few pictures of my trip back home and then back to work in the flash flood that I was unprepared for.....I am a girl scout and I know to keep a change of clothes for the kids in the car, but maybe I should keep some for me too. lol I hope you enjoy the pictures better than I did the drive. I have never been in a flash flood before and I hope never to be in one again!

This is the longest Week!

I have been unable or maybe just to tired to post this week. I had 2 and a half hours of sleep 3 days in a row. I managed a cat nap in the evening before work thanks to my husband and sister. I worked all night and got up early to do school activities and doctors visits with the kids all week. Then I had 3 large custom orders still to finish. I have been trying my hardest to get it all done. I only relisted and renewed in my etsy shop and managed to snatch a few treasuries that I had saved in my Poster Sketch. HURRAY hurray I got MAIL today... well maybe a few days ago, but I am still excited about it! I had ordered these custom fabric labels for my bibs and toys. I knew I needed them small to fit on my teething toys. That's when I ran across these 100 -1.5" long x 0.5" high custom labels by greenbeansnstrings in her fabulous Etsy shop. If you have been thinking about getting labels for your creations you shouldn't wait any longer. Just pop on over to greenbeansnstrings and order some.

I made sure to sew one onto the bib I sold this morning before shipping it out......

Back to School and Fall Fashions

August is already halfway over and for most that means crisp cool Autumn is near. Apple Festivals and warm apple cider. Plus school buses will soon be stopping at every street while your trying to get to work and running late! The shorts will soon be gone and your pretty pastel purse will be traded in for a darker warmer on. Fuzzy warm scarves and hats to bundle up in. That is what has inspired my two new treasuries.......

I always say I like vintage things, but I am not sure if this is what I meant. My husband found this beauty and brought her home. I had been asking for a fridge in the garage to hold extra things when my family visits and for drinks. I mean yes it's cool, but I am not running a mini mart in my garage. How old is this thing anyway???? Who knows! She runs loud and leaks condensation in a puddle on the garage floor. I really like the look of her, but it is yet to be determined if she will stay. ...

A "TRUE" vintage beauty!

On another night here at home my husband found a tiny toad and I mean as small as a penny. I came home form work to find the tiny guy jumping around on the kitchen floor. Yes we let him go, but before we did we took pictures!

Drinking Game THE PSYCHIATRIST

We all have those nights when we are sitting with friends (possibly drinking) and we have nothing to do, but chat. Why not add a little fun and play a game.

THE PSYCHIATRIST

1.Things you need.....at least 4 friends and 4 seats ...........more always welcome!

2.Player 1 is the psychiatrist. Their job is to find out what everyones problem is by asking questions. That is all that the psychiatrist is allowed to know. One rule the psychiatrist can Not ask names of people.

3.Players 2,3,4,etc. all have the same problem...."They are the person to their Right". They act as if they are the person to their right. So every question is answered as if they are the person to their right. You can Not tell the psychiatrist your name.

4.If the any player does Not know the answer to the question then they say "I don't know" and all players stand up and switch seats. Thus giving you a new person to your right and all new answer. This is the only clue to help the psychiatrist besides the questions.

It is simple, but NOT easy for most. Whenever we play it with new friends we laugh so hard that our cheeks hurt and some people are trying not to pee their pants! I recommend this for family gatherings or holidays also. The questions get funnier and more personal as the game goes on and the drinks get empty, which only leads to more laughter.

Other Options: We have replayed with the same people and we all have the same problem like we are a tree, a hammock, a friend we all know, a problem, etc.

The addiction has spread to treasury west. I sit there in my cozy chair watching the treasury slowly going down down down till it hits the magical number and then the animal instinct in me jumps at the opportunity and snatches a treasury just a fast as I can! Whether or not I have a title already chosen. Which is why the second one say "Oh Yes". I saw the opportunity and just jumped without having a plan. I was still happy with it in the end. I would love to have your opinions..so leave me a comment and let me know how my treasuries are progressing the more I do them.

Camo Baby

I was minding my own business when I just happen to stumble into a fabric store....oops! Don't you just hate when that happens? lol Then I came upon a camo print fabric, but not the normal kind. The BUTTERFLY KIND! What a fun camo I thought. And then I knew that my newest bibs would be butterfly camo ones. This fabric was not normal cotton, nor canvas, but the fabric label said cotton. It was some fun mix between canvas and soft fabric. Very pliable and semi thick. I thought hey this would be a great absorbent fabric for bibs and baby spills!

The kids had been at Grandma's for a day and I had just worked 12hrs at my job doing a catering. I got home and fell asleep while my husband went to get the kids. I was then awoken by two sweet children yelling "mommy mommy" and climbing into my bed. They were carrying a large bucket of sunflowers that they had cut for me. They had a twinkle in their eyes and love in their hearts. Also my 5 yr old son had a tiny pink flower he had picked just for me...what a sweet kid! I was so thrilled and felt so loved. Maybe just maybe I raised them right.

Handmade Baby Toys

All these toys are handmade with cotton fabric and fiberfill. No hard plastic parts filled with harsh chemicals like most baby toys you buy in the store these days. All are family favorite patterns that have been in use since 1972.

A small world on my front porch

I have written about nature watching in my yard before, but this small world of snails living under the 1st step on my front porch was different. I hadn't been watching it. I didn't even know it was there. I had walked over it day after day and didn't even realize these sweet slimy creatures had made a home there.

Aren't they so sweet. You can see the different stages they are growing in. Some have hard shell and some have soft small swirls of what will be there shells. They are tiny tiny things smaller than a pea living their simple peaceful life under my porch step.

I wonder what else is hiding in my yard that the kids and I haven't yet discovered.
Isn't nature amazing!

The funny thing is I did a snail treasury a few days ago and it must have been because they were near;)~

Garden Fresh Rice with Asiago cheese

I picked just a few things from the garden and decided to make a very yummy rice out of it. I turned some boring plain brown rice into something my children and husband actually ate!

It was Simple really.... While boiling the water for the rice I added the rosemary. When the rice was ready to be added I took the rosemary out. Then I added some brown rice with the package directions. When the rice was done I added 1/2 cup of asiago cheese, a hand full of cherry tomatoes cut in half, a small shallot diced, some chopped parsley and chives, salt and pepper, and then it was done!

It was a yummy side dish to go along with our BBQ Chicken, Green beans, and Pineapple.

Yellow Springs ~A trip back in time~

Today we took a family day trip to a really neat place. A place you can say is stuck in time. An easier laid back time. When things were about art, culture, great food, and community. It is full of hippies and tie dye and the essence of sandalwood incense. It's a family friendly place and my kids had a blast!

Riddles BBQ had some killer sausage and pulled pork sandwiches!!!

I came across a music store called Dingleberry's. It was filled with vinyl and cd's. I came across a Curtis Mayfield record and had to have it. It now has a home on top of my piano in the dinning room. If you haven't heard Curtis Mayfield or listened to funk music you should! It makes me happy:)

Garden veggies and herbs

This gardening thing is so much fun and if you haven't planted something you should give it a try.

My garden is in bloom and everything took except for the cilantro. This is my 1st year for having a garden. It may be small, but it's just enough for me to learn the ropes of keeping things green! I have no luck with indoor plants, but the outdoor ones are growing and thriving. I am so excited to see that the sugar sun tomatoes are ripe and ready for picking. This tiny plant has over grown it's place and is giving me more tomatoes than I can eat. If it weren't for my mother coming over and letting me now that they weren't going to turn red, than I would have been waiting a few weeks before I figured it out. lol They aren't the red kind she said....I did say that I was new to this right? Oh well now I know and I am ready to try them out. When I make a yummy dish I will be happy to take pics and share. I have been using the basil, oregano, dill, parsley, rosemary, and chives already. They make all my dishes fresh and yummy!!! The jalapeños, shalots, and tomatoes are my next to try.

I just wanted to take a minute to remember my baby brother. He was a brilliant, funny, wonderful, lovable, sad guy who took his life one year ago today. I miss him terribly and wish he was here for just one more day so I could wrap my arms around him and never let go! I have been trying to think of the good times with him, but I am still so sad that it hasn't eased the pain. I hope that wherever he is he knows we loved him so much and will forever and ever....... 1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
1 can (20 oz.) DOLE Crushed Pineapple in Juice, undrained
1 cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
1 prepared round angel food cake (10 oz.)
10 fresh strawberries

MIX dry pudding mix and pineapple in medium bowl. Gently stir in whipped topping.

CUT cake horizontally into three layers. Place bottom cake layer on serving plate; top with one-third of the pudding mixture. Repeat layers two times.

REFRIGERATE at least 1 hour. Top with strawberries just before serving. Store leftovers in refrigerator.

Bruschetta Chicken Bake

1 can (14-1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 pkg. (6 oz.) STOVE TOP Stuffing Mix for Chicken
1/2 cup water
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-1/2 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1 tsp. dried basil leaves
1 cup KRAFT Shredded Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese

HEAT oven to 400°F. Stir tomatoes, stuffing mix, water and garlic just until stuffing mix is moistened.

PLACE chicken in 13x9-inch baking dish; sprinkle with basil. Top with cheese and stuffing mixture.

BAKE 30 min. or until chicken is cooked through.

Crazy Dreams

I can't tell you what this means, but hey it's a dream......

My husband was an astronaut and he was getting ready for his flight. He had to take radiation pills to make it through the atmosphere. We lived in my childhood home here in Ohio, but we had remodeled it. He was taking off in the backyard landing zone of course! lol Then I went to check on the banana trees in the basement we planted for the gorillas. ??? Then the guy in charge of them said we should have planted oranges. ??? Then I remember I am late for my husbands take off and I run outside. He hasn't taken off yet, but there are cabin pressure problems and they are trying to fix it before his radiation pills run out. I have to run to the store and then I get lost in this truck I am driving (don't know where I go that). I then realize that my son is inside the house alone sleeping and I have to find my way home to check on him. He is fine and I leave my mom with him. I go back to the landing pad and check on my husband. They scratch the flight and we all go inside. THE END.

Tornado or Not?

During my daughters birthday party I checked weatherbug on the computer and saw a big line of red coming our way. The my brother said "moms car windows are open". I look outside to see blackness fastly approaching the house. I find my moms keys and my husband Dan runs out to close her windows. Just then the down poor starts. He makes a dash for it and within 10 seconds these crazy scary high winds pick up and start rocking the car. I run inside and tell all the party goers to get in the basement. Yes I was screaming at them like a crazy woman! I look outside and see the tree falling down and the chairs flying against the back door. I scream for my husband and we all head downstairs. We sat for a few minutes and could hear banging, lightening and thunder, the wind howling, and a loud popping sounds (the electric transformers). The power went out and we found candles. My poor daughter starts crying "I am gonna be the only girl that dies on her 10th birthday". Poor thing! Then it all got semi calm except for the thunder.

We made our way outside to find our poor trees down and the neighbors too. Shingles were everywhere and front door mats that weren't ours. Fences and a gazebo was ripped out of the cement. The basement started flooding in ours and the neighbors house. Thankfully no one was hurt and the houses were still standing, but boy did it give us all a terrible scare! They say it was either a storm burst with very high (80mph) winds or a tornado trying to form. I don't care what they call it! I am just glad it's over! It took a day to get the power back, but it's back and now I am back to blogging!

Tree Toppers

I am not an animal person and really never claim to be. I have allergies due to all the dander they make. As cute as they may be they make me sneeze, my eyes water, and my lungs wheeze. I have come to like them from a distance. Though this past year we moved to a new house in a new town and we have trees. Lots of pretty trees. Every morning I wake up I hear birds. Lots of birds that fill the tops of our trees. Morning doves, robins, cardinals, black birds, finches, etc. It's almost like an aviary in my own backyard.

There is also a bunny family that lives under the shed and they eat the spinach I have planted. I don't mind though. At the top of a tree over the fence that blocks us from the neighbors dogs is a nest. I thought it was a bird nest till one morning the squirrel that we watch every morning scatter along the phone lines, across the road, and down to the neighbors came crawling out of it. Then I realized we also have a squirrel who has made a home in our yard! All this nature in suburbia has made me love animals! Wild ones that I can watch from a distance and don't have to feed every day and take for a walk. Animals who have their own little lives right in my own backyard. They live side by side in the same acre we do not giving a thought to what we are doing in our busy lives. They keep busy feeing their young and keeping their nests or burrows tidy and clean. They fly around or jump and play in the tall neighbors grass. I now realize that I love animals! Just not the ones that live in my home as a pet.

I appreciate all of my friend and families pets and the bonds they have with them, but I too have bonded with my mother robin who made a nest in our front yard in our weeping cherry tree. I can pick her out of a whole flock of birds any day! It all started when one day I saw a robin put a few strands of straw on a branch. Then she worked very hard for days constructing the most tightly wound beautiful nest I had ever laid eyes on. She used plastic twigs, straw, garbage, plastic, and robin eggs blue Easter grass that would soon match her three tiny eggs. I have often wondered if she thought about the color when picking it out. The mother bird has a strikingly broad red breast and her neck doesn't seem to be as long as the other robins around. She stands firm watching her nest and protecting her young.

Weeks went by as we watched her sit on the eggs and then the eggs hatch into 3 tiny naked baby birds. There was one bird that was the biggest and strongest and always put it's neck out farther and got fed first. That bird of course stayed the biggest and took over the nest. I felt a pride for this mother bird who worked tirelessly from sun up till sun down getting worms and bugs for her three growing babies. She literally would stop and feed them and then rush off to find more food. Soon returning to start all over again. The babies grew fast and of course my camera documented all that the momma would let me. Then one day we were grilling and saw the babies jump out of the nest and start to fly. Luckily I had my camera handy and we followed them to the neighbors yard on their first flight. I was sad to see them go, but happy that our beautiful broad breasted mother bird had done her job and made three birds who will also go off to make their own families. Of course as the mother that I am to two wonderful kids I couldn't help but think of my own kids and how someday they will leave me to start their own lives. That is years away, but still always in the back of my mind. I have since seen the babies with their not yet fully grown bodies and fuzzy feather on top of their heads sitting on the fence. So till next year my little robin friends I will be watching you sitting in my tree tops and chirping to me every morning.

Welcome to my first blog! I am new at this so bare with me. Don't be afraid to let me know if something isn't looking right around here:)

I am a twenty something happily married woman with wonderful kids and a great family. I love to craft and create! It keeps me going. I do get burned out easily so I try to switch it up as often as I can. I work nights and don't sleep much so it takes new fun things to keep me interested. I love vintage items. I tried my hat at Primitive for years and loved the experience, but have recently moved onto more retro vintage for now. I started quilting and sewing as a kid and got my own sewing machine 6yrs ago. I have been at it ever since. I have been selling on ebay as elizabethjanecreations for a long time and have since changed my name and moved to etsy. I would love you to come see all my fun new stuff there! I am a happy person in general and try not to be cynical, but hey I am only human;) I am also a Taurus so that makes me a bit bullheaded. What can I say... I can talk dirty with the best of them and then can be an angel at PTA meetings. It makes life fun! I love to chat and luckily I have 4 sisters who also love to chat!
